In an effort to keep the student body apprised of what SBA is doing, I prepared the following summary of SBA activities since the last Docket issue. At the most recent meeting the Board discussed class scheduling issues that were raised during and after the Spring registration period. In meetings held with Christine Malone and Dean Annamaria Nields, Board members were able to express the concerns of their fellow students and brainstorm to come up with ideas to solve the problems. The class representatives reiterated their strong interest in staying involved in the scheduling process for upcoming semesters.

The SBA budget meeting is on January 31, 2010, beginning at 3pm. At the most recent SBA meeting the Board voted to amend the budget bylaws to include new rules governing travel and the budget process. Student Organizations should make sure they are familiar with the new rules. If you have any questions about this process please contact the Accounts Treasurer, Webster Ye (webster.ye@gmail.com) or the Budget Treasurer, Richard Peterson (richardlpeterson@gmail.com).

Recently the SBA Executive Committee met with the University Ombudsman to discuss her role on campus as an unbiased investigator of complaints. The Ombudsman emphasized her role as a resource to help students address concerns related to the school informally and stressed that she does not act as a lawyer and does not represent any one side of an issue but simply looks into complaints and tries to help the parties to resolve them. If anyone has further questions about the Ombudsman's role they can pick up a pamphlet in the SBA office or visit http://ombudsman.gmu.edu/

Don't forget that the Murphy Pool Tournament will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2010, beginning at 1pm. This tournament is open to students, faculty and alumni and is a great networking event for students. The tournament will be held at Carpool, with beverages and snacks provided. The cost of entry for students is $15 per team. Sign up at the SBA table in the Atrium from 1-6:15pm all week! Additionally, Barrister's Ball tickets will go on sale in the Atrium beginning the week of January 24, 2010 so don't forget to buy your tickets for this event (February 20, 2010).

As usual, please feel free to contact myself (lawsba@gmu.edu) or any members of the Board if you have any questions or concerns - we would love the opportunity to address them and to help make your experience at George Mason School of Law the best it can be!
