Doug Eldridge, a GMU Law Alum, is set to run his ninth marathon of the year, the Marine Corps Marathon, in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, October 25 for the Wounded Warrior Project. The Wounded Warrior Project is a nationwide non-profit organization and campaign established to raise awareness and enlist the public's support for severely injured service men. The Wounded Warrior Project has helped wounded soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan by creating a number of programs and services to meet the transitional needs of these young Americans. The project's overall mission is to honor and empower wounded veterans.

Eldridge, a sports agent with DLE Sports Management Group, is determined to run ten marathons in 12 months to raise $100,000 for charity. "I hope that my 12-month long campaign will spark conversation, donation, and a call to action by all Americans," he says, adding that, "the immediate goal is to raise $100,000, but the ultimate objective is to raise awareness, funding and reform. I hope this will be a huge step in that direction."

Eldridge has already participated in eight marathons to date. His next and ninth marathon in this 10-12-100 Campaign is the Washington D.C.'s Marine Corps Marathon, which begins and ends in Arlington, Virginia. The upcoming marathon is the largest race in the country not to offer prize money to the winner and is a special race to Eldridge. The marathon's path runs by many of the monuments near the Mall, the Capital, and goes through Arlington, finishing at the Iwo Jima Memorial. The tenth is planned in Las Vegas on December 6.

"As the son of a career Army officer I am acutely aware of the notion that to serve means to sacrifice," says Eldridge. "These wounded warriors are the definition of sacrifice and they did so in the defense and promotion of the very liberties I enjoy as an American citizen."

During law school, Eldridge was a member of the Moot Court Board and the Honor Council. An athlete since high school, he has completed two Ironman triathlons as well. To learn more about the Wounded Warrior Project, and how to get involved or donate, please visit www.woundedwarriorproject.org.

This is a really good cause and it's great that he is raising awareness for the issue of helping wounded soldiers coming back from battle. They will have to deal with their injuries for the rest of their lives and could use all the help they can get. (Continued…)
