Summer 2009 Positions Still Available: If you are looking for summer employment, students should monitor Symplicity, as well as other national job banks, every day from now through the exam period and beyond. Employers - particularly small and medium-size firms, small companies, and nonprofit associations - post new positions as we draw closer to the summer. Students should act quickly because jobs move fast at this time of year - especially this year. CAAS will send periodic reminders when new postings come in. Students should also remember that professors often need research assistants for summer research projects and deans need assistants for a variety of research and administrative tasks. Don't be shy - just ask a professor or staff member if they would like some assistance over the summer. Sometimes research assistants even earn money!
2009 Fall Hiring Season Overview: Students who are interested in participating in Fall Recruiting (on-campus interviews, resume collection, and off-campus interview programs) must attend one Fall Hiring Season Overview session. Sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, April 14 at 12:00 pm in Room 329 and Wednesday, April 15 at 5:00 pm in Room 225 (pizza will be provided). Sessions will cover employers' fall hiring deadlines, how Fall Recruiting works, bidding on Symplicity, fall job fairs, how to evaluate employers, and how a typical fall-hiring employer evaluates you. Interviews will begin at Mason on August 17; off-campus interview programs begin on August 4 (New York). Submission of application materials will take place from June-August, depending upon the employer. Additional Fall Hiring Season Overview sessions will be held on May 15 and June 30 at 6:30 in the evening. For students who previously participated in Fall Recruiting, this session is optional.
Summer Deadlines and Events: CAAS announcements, events, and deadlines continue throughout the summer. For example, deadlines for the fall hiring season and judicial clerkships occur May - August. If you are not on one of the class listservs or have not provided the Records Office with your most current or summer address, make sure you do so soon in order to stay in the loop.
