Most law students know that balancing school and work with the other aspects of life is easier said than done. On November 19th, student members of the George Mason American Inn of Court presented a program at Tivoli Restaurant in Rosslyn, offering advice and solutions for how to achieve that balance. Student presenters Jesse Binnall, Richard Cheng, and Scott Scher developed and organized the program titled: "The Work/School/Life Conundrum: Achieving Balance in the 21st Century."
Masters of the Inn, The Honorable Thomas Mann from Fairfax Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court and Beau Brincefield, Esq. offered their insights and explained how simple things like time management and prioritizing goals go a long way towards a healthier, more balanced life.
Special guest panelists also included Brandy Wagstaff, 4E at GMUSL and Manuel Capsalis, President of the Virginia State Bar. Ms. Wagstaff attributed the balance in her life to her eternal optimism and the support of her family. Mr. Capsalis explained how he manages to balance his family, his law practice, and his responsibilities as President of the Virginia State Bar. Mr. Capsalis imparted his words of wisdom on the audience and noted that having a busy life isn't necessarily a bad thing. Quoting Henry David Thoreau, Mr. Capsalis reminded us that "Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it."
The Inn of Court is looking forward to an exciting Spring semester and will accept applications from 1L, 2L and 3E students in March 2009. We encourage you all to apply!
