Casino Night:
Casino Night was one of the most successful of years past, raising over $800 for OAR of Fairfax. Both full-time faculty and adjunct professors volunteered their Thursday night to play black jack dealers to students, who bought chips in exchange for raffled prizes. First year professors, notably Professors Davies, Krauss, Parker, and Warnick made appearances at the event. Professor Forman, who teaches Labor Law, represented the adjunct faculty.
The First Year SBA Reps., headed by Heather Britton (1D), provided food, drink, and lounge music for the event. Robert Duffy (1E Rep.) enjoyed the event. "It was awesome. It was great to meet some of the professors that we will be having over the next couple of years and a wonderful opportunity to talk to current professors outside of the classroom"
The SBA thanks those retailers who donated prizes to the event: Bailey's, Chevy's, Chipotle, Macaroni Grill, Mister Days, O'Sullivans, Rock Bottom, South Moon Under, and Starbuck's. Also, thank you to Professor Davies for donating a Supreme Court bobble head.
SBA Meeting:
Sunday night's SBA meeting focused on the Inn of Court, announcements from Dean Huber, and preparation for upcoming social events, elections, and graduation. The SBA also initiated a budget by-law that would require either a student organization treasurer or president to attend a treasurer's meeting in order to be eligible for SBA funding.
The Board of Governors heard from Judge Thatcher and local practitioner Jay Myerson, both members of the George Mason Inn of Court, about the benefits that GMUSL receives from its partnership with the Inn. Both noted that the contact between GMUSL students and the Inn ultimately help the entire GMUSL community through the positive influence the students have on the practitioners' opinions of GMUSL as a whole and the long lasting partnerships that often result.
The Inn's budget was cut at the spring budget meeting due to budget and by-law constraints. The Board was unable to reach a quorum on the Inn of Court's budget request Sunday. For further information about the meeting, or for minutes of the meeting, please go to the SBA TWEN site.
