As the year draws to a close and with finals fast approaching, the Moot Court Board would like to thank everyone who helped make this year hugely successful.

The Moot Court Board, comprised of second, third, and fourth year law students, serves the dual function of hosting moot court competitions and fielding teams to participate in competitions at law schools around the country. This year, the Board planned and executed two GMUSL intramural competitions, the Upper Class Moot Court Competition and the First Year Moot Court Competition, and hosted the third annual Henry G. Manne Moot Court Competition for Law & Economics.

Each year, the Moot Court Board hosts two intramural competitions in conjunction with the Legal Research and Writing Program. These competitions present a unique opportunity to allow George Mason Students to hone their oral advocacy skills before various members of the local community bench and bar. In November, 28 two-person teams participated in the first round of the Upper Class Competition. Following an impressive display of oral advocacy, the Moot Court Board was once again honored to have Chief Judge Douglas Ginsburg of the United States Court of Appeals of the District of Columbia host the final round of the Upper Class Competition at the D.C. Court of Appeals. Judge Stephen Glickman of the District of Columbia Circuit Court, and Senior Judge Loren A. Smith of the United States Court of Federal Claims joined Judge Ginsberg on the final panel. Catherine Haggett (3E) and Al Clarke (2D) chaired the Upper Class Competition.

The last weekend of March, more than 200 first year students argued before distinguished panels or local attorneys and judges during the annual First Year Competition. The following weekend, forty-eight of the top-ranked competitors proceeded to the advancing rounds. Throughout both weekends, following the competition's theme of Celebrating Diversity Within the Law, the panels reflected a variety of backgrounds, races and experiences. In addition to returning alums, the panels consisted of many local practitioners and judges who had never visited George Mason before. On April 7, Judge Gerald Bruce Lee of the U. S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia hosted the final round of the First Year Competition at the Eastern District of Virginia, sitting with Judge James Benton of the Court of Appeals of Virginia, and Judge Leslie Alden of the Fairfax County Circuit Court. After an impressive display of oral advocacy, the community gathered back at George Mason Law School for the "Colors of Justice" reception, which included remarks by Judge Lee and a presentation of awards to the Finalists. Jill Maguire (3D) and Jessica Packett (2D) chaired the competition and worked closely with Melissa Taylormoore (2D), the Moot Court Board Judges Chair, to ensure a hugely successful competition. Judge Stanley P. Klein worked with the entire Moot Court Board to make the 2006 First Year Competition a resounding success and to lay the framework for more success in the future.
